Jesus Virus II
JESUS VIRUS – Part 2
I have been unpleasantly amazed and rudely awakened by the unsavory commentary and arrogance portrayed by some people especially when God or prayer is mentioned in relation to these difficult times in which we live. Most heart breaking is to find out some of the most terrible commentary came from folks who would identify themselves as ‘Christians’ on a normal day. Like really? I ask myself.
The moral and spiritual fiber of our world is deteriorating at a much faster rate than we think, trust me. I ask myself, how and when did God and prayer became leprous that they are no longer allowed amongst men, God and prayers have become a taboo, a mockery of nations. People think their minute knowledge or accomplishments supersedes the God who gave them breathe and can take it at any time? My brother, my sister, relax, all you see is not all there is. This kind of mind-set is pompous and disrespectful towards God.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Who is this that darkeneth counsel, by words without knowledge?
Gird up now thy loins like a man;
for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?
declare, if thou hast understanding.
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest?
or who hath stretched the line upon it?
or who shut up the sea with doors,
when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
When I made the cloud the garment thereof,
and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
And brake up for it my decreed place,
and set bars and doors,
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further:
and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days;
and caused the dayspring to know his place;
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,
that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
We are terribly limited in knowledge and understanding, yet our arrogance and pride knows no boundaries. Many have come and departed; the great emperors of Rome; the Nero’s and the Augustus, the Alexander the greats of Macedonia and Persia, the Philosophers of Ancient Greece; the Plato’s and co have all disappeared from the face of the earth.
This is not an article to convert anyone who doesn’t believe in God or prayer, but at least allow those of us who believe in the dynamic working power of prayer to do so, without all the destructions, insults and political twists. Afterall nobody is abusing those who don’t believe in God or prayer. I believe this is unfair even in natural justice.
Some say we should stop prayers and concentrate on medicine and all that; this is my question to them; is science and medicine and prayer mutually exclusive? I think not. We can and
should do both. We are all aware of what nations whose hospitals make us desire to be hospitalized; because of how advanced they are in medicine and technology are saying.
There are too many lessons from history, both Biblically and secularly, which enforces this national day of prayer and fasting. In 1940, Hitler unleashed a military onslaught on the world, in his evil ambition to rule the whole world(which always happens when good people in the society, who know better, hold their peace), and was advancing towards Great Britain to its annihilation, until a national day of prayer was observed. Suddenly in a decision that infuriated his generals and still baffles historians. Hitler ordered his army to halt. Had they continued to fight the destruction of Great Britain would have been inevitable. Winston Churchill called it “the miracle of Dunkirk”. No matter how sophisticated, careful and intelligent we may be, a time comes when we are forced to acknowledge that the heavens do rule in the affairs of men.
I join my little voice to the great voices of the land to make a clarion call to all who believe in the power of God and prayer to turn situations around to make their stomachs available for tomorrows fasting as we fulfil our noble and priestly assignment as intercessors for the nation.
May God find us not asleep or murmuring but awake and making up the hedges and standing in the gaps for this nation when He comes searching, that we might be spared. Thank you.
